Typically, many Plastic Surgeons and Doctors pay very little attention to how skin looks or feels, whilst Dermatologists emphasise the treatment of skin diseases.
Meanwhile, a great deal of business is done by product manufacturers and Beauty Therapists pursuing ill fated attempts to treat cosmetic conditions of the skin. Most treatments for wrinkled skin, dryness, sensitive skin, Acne and Melasma (a hyperpigmentation condition) do not take into account the real medicine of healing. In our experience, most over the counter products do not work, while Beauty Therapists are limited in their abilities to resolve such conditions.
Few patients achieve improvement; the majority either end up frustrated in their attempts to resolve matters or, regrettably, end up having invasive treatments that leaves their skin worse off. Frustrated patients spend endless money in their quest to resolve their conditions, veering between doctors, beauty therapists and department stores, buying bottles and jars full of little more than promises.
In our advanced Plastic Surgery Practice we deal with a large quantity of skin work such as moles, lumps and bumps. Furthermore, a large number of patients require Reconstructive Plastic Surgery as well as Aesthetic Surgery. Unlike many of our contemporaries, we therefore regard clear, smooth skin as the sine qua non of good results and measure our success not only by surgical results but by the end quality of our patients’ skin.
